5 Things we are really excited about in 2014

1 Tour de France

It's here, its actually finally here. The Tour De France will be hitting Yorkshire in 2014 and with back to back British winners, interest in the event is at an all time high. The cottages are a great central location from which to view both stages. Infact we are so close you could easily cycle to Masham or West Tanfield to enjoy the race without worrying about parking or road closures. If you would like to cycle the course or parts of the course your self we hope to have bike hire options in the new year and you can find a great route idea on our blog.

2 All change at the local

The Green Dragon has for many years provided our guests with steak nights, quiz nights, roaring fires and a belly full of traditional pub food & local ale. There has just been a change at the helm and we are excited to see what the new management bring to what has always been a pub that is popular with locals and visitors alike.

3 The Summer's Festivals and Events

Yorkshire Festivals.jpg

From June to September Yorkshire is arguably the festival capital of the UK. What ever your interest or taste there seems to be a festival for it. Music, Film, Food, Agriculture and Lifestyle are all represented. There is a regularly updated list of events that can be viewed here (link will open in a new tab).

4 Exelby Extravaganza

Quaint, quirky and a bucket load of fun. Lots of villages in the area have their own summer events and Exelby is no exception. This year there was food, drink, games, music and prizes including a stay at High Grange. Every year the event seems to grow making it a favourite amongst the locals and visitors with one of our guests from last year liken it to being on the set of 'the vicar of Dibley'

And finally...A bit more of a personal one.

5 Ten Years at the Cottages.

Come July Ian and myself have been at the cottages for ten years. New faces arrive every year as well as the very loyal customers who we see again and again to whom we owe a big thank you. Working at the cottages is a pleasure and we love reading about what you got up to on your holiday in our visitor books and on our trip advisor page. We are lucky to have the guests that we do and we look forward to improving the cottages and making lots of new friends in the next ten years.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in 2014!
