You're all packed and you're ready for your Yorkshire getaway; someone has been watching! He watched as you packed your walking boots, he saw you remove your walking jacket from the cupboard under the stairs. From a crouched position over by the door his eyes flick between you and the familiar spot where a crumpled carrier bag hangs. His tail begins to flick uncontrollably and he does his best to suppress a whimper of excitement. He continues to stare longingly at the bag and imagines the feel of the rubber ball against teeth, the familiar click of the lead and the feeling of freedom and of the wind rushing past his ears as he chases across the park.
Then with keys in hand and family in tow you walk out of the door but still the tail flicks and his eyes are still filled with hope. ‘A family walk’ he thinks, ‘I love family walks.’ and he stands as still as a stone listening for footsteps coming back to the door to collect him. Instead he hears the turning of the ignition and a car pulling away from the curb. Slumping back into his bed he knows Bob and Sheila will be round to feed him and let him out but he would much rather be in the car heading out on a family adventure.
